Anytime Fitness Reviews

Anytime Fitness is a health and fitness club and is known for its franchise based operations in various countries. Founded by Chuck Ranyon, who is also its CEO, the company is currently based in Minnesota and is now the fastest growing fitness franchise in the world.

Since the company was launched in 2002, Anytime Fitness has gone on to expand operations. It was Runyon along with Jeff Klinger and Dave Mortensen who decided on the  center’s first location, what memberships to offer, what gym gear to purchase and what marketing strategies to employ. The following year in 2003, their first franchise was inaugurated in Cambridge. According to the three, they chose the spot as it lacked fitness clubs but had a sizeable population who could benefit from it. The rest as they say, is history and Anytime Fitness has become one of the giants in the industry.

Number of Locations

Rating: 9 / 10

Anytime Fitness has more than 3000 locations in 20 countries, and they run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. If you’re looking for a convenient fitness center, Anytime Fitness is your best bet. It is literally everywhere and is expanding operations, making it one of, if not the most, widely available fitness center today. One of the problems with other gyms is they’re too far, or you have to adjust your schedule just to find time to work out. Not here, since it’s always open.

Membership Fees

Rating: 8 / 10

The membership fees aren’t that expensive. There’s no initiation fee, and you can choose between monthly and annual payments. If you opt for the monthly payment, it comes down to $35 a month with a onetime fee of $25. The annual fee for singles is $335, with the same onetime fee. Considering the clubs are open 24/7, the rates are very reasonable.

Rating: 8 / 10

One of the reasons why Anytime Fitness has been able to expand so quickly is it has earned a reputation for cleanliness. Their gyms, from the weight room to the locker room, are known for being clean, and it’s something members are known for as well. Of course given that there are thousands of franchises running, the level of cleanliness cannot always be the same, but for the most part they’ve been getting positive reviews.

Workout Machine Maintenance

Rating: 7 / 10

Anytime Fitness has a decent number of gym equipment including cardiovascular machines, and there’s no shortage of free weights either. Their gym equipment is well maintained, and members can input settings to customize them, and there are few reports of problems with the consoles, an indication of how well they are maintained.

Too Busy

Rating: 9 / 10

The gym is usually packed, not surprising given the affordable membership, but the spacious nature of their gyms means long waiting times are very rare. As other reviewers and members have commented, there are more than enough bikes, treadmills and cardio equipment to go around. Your membership allows you to visit their other clubs at no extra cost, something other gyms charge you for.

Rating: 7 / 10

Anytime Fitness Gym is not lacking in amenities, with tanning beds, massage rooms, coolers and a day care center. The tanning bed is available 24/7, although again the number of amenities may vary depending on your location. Anytime Fitness also has an iOS app that members can use to download workouts and engage other users. Probably the most important amenity here is the 24/7 security on all the clubs, with cameras active day and night to ensure their members’ safety.

Customer Service

Rating: 8 / 10

Customer service is good, and the staff makes sure that the place is clean and well maintained. There are a few complaints here and there, but overall the customer service is what you’d expect from a high quality fitness center. While the fitness center caters to the needs of bodybuilders, their customer support is also designed to provide assistance to those who are going to a gym for the first time.

Locker Room and Shower

Rating: 7 /10

There are no locker rooms in most Anytime Fitness centers, although there are lockers outside the private bathrooms. The reason is they cannot put security cameras in locker rooms, but even so, the restrooms and showers are clean and provide privacy.

Overall Experience

Rating: 8 / 10

Anytime Fitness is a good choice if you’re looking for an affordable gym. The large number of locations, plus the fact that you can visit other clubs with just a single membership, is one of its biggest selling points. But aside from that, their clubs are also clean and offer a nice number of workout equipment. While more expensive gyms may offer amenities, Anytime Fitness gyms should suit those who demand convenience.

  1. Greetings! I was citing this website for my presentation and as an employee of Anytime Fitness, I’m proud to say that rather than having merely 2,400 clubs in 19 countries, we now have well over 3,000 clubs in over 20 countries! Good times:)

  2. I just called my local Anytime Fitness and was quoted the monthly price of 57.45 for a single membership per month. That’s twice what I see on this website. I may reconsider. Is there really that great of a range in price between gyms?
