Curves is a fitness center that specializes in weight loss and physical fitness for women. It was established in 1992 by Gary and Diane Heavin in Harlington, Texas. A lot of women began patronizing their services and within their initial three years of operation, they started providing franchise options.

Now, Curves is regarded as one of the most popular franchise gyms in the world, having established thousands of franchises all across the globe. Due to the success of their weight loss and fitness training programs their gyms are not only catering to women, but to men as well.

The owners of Curves are not just in it for the money. They are also heavy contributors to charitable organizations. Curves has given $1 million donations to the American Cancer Society in 2009 and has used their company jet to bring doctors and medical workers to Haiti when it was devastated by a very strong earthquake.

There are about 3,175 locations around the United States and has franchises over 85 foreign countries.  In the United States alone, Curves boasts of approximately 4 million members.

Aside from its thousands of gyms in the United States, Curves has franchises in South Africa, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Mexico and Australia. In Eastern Europe, it is known as FitCurves, and has franchises in Russia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Serbia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Romania, Slovakia, Serbia and Bulgaria.

With the more than average cost of membership, Curves is able to provide a tidy and clean gym environment for their customers. This is just expected because if they want to maintain and increase their clientele, they should strive to provide them a clean and safe environment in order for them not to be charged with causing sicknesses for their clients while they are inside their gym facilities.

A rating of 9 is given by this review to Curves for their effort to maintain a clean gym environment.

Workout Machine Maintenance

Rating: 9/10

Curves also ensures the safety of their clients that is why they are strict in maintaining all their exercise machines and equipment. A regular preventive maintenance is observed to ensure that these machines and equipment are fully functional and safe to operate.

Too Busy

The gym workout plans and programs of Curves are varied and are not only for dedicated health buffs. There are workouts and exercises designed for busy people as well. Curves know that not all people are the same that is why they also cater to those who can only work out as their time permits.

Apart from the gym equipment and machines, there are no other amenities like a pool or basketball court in a Curves gym.

Many customers have found Curves to have a good social environment and a great facility to spend their workout exercises. To most customers, the flexible exercise schedule is convenient because they don’t have to worry of getting there at a certain time.

Locker Room

In some high end locations, Curves has installed locket rooms. However, most facilities don’t have locker rooms. However, they provide open cubicles.

Since most Curves gyms don’t have locker rooms, this review can only give them a score of 8.

Shower Ratings

Most Curves facilities don’t have showers. In place of these, they provide small changing rooms.

Overall Experience

Rating: 9/10

Curves is designed mostly for women. As such, social opportunities abound. This is where Curves stands out from the rest: the opportunity to make friends – in addition to losing weight and improving one’s health.

  1. the only problem with curves it closes to early.
    They used to stay open until 8:00 or 8:30 some nights
    They close early on weekdends and alot are not open on sundays.
    I was a member of curves for along time. With the changes in the hours it does not fit my schedule.
