LA Fitness Prices

LA Fitness International LLC is a chain of fitness gyms with over 700 locations in the United States and Canada. The chain is well-known for its state-of-the-art fitness equipment, modern facilities and amenities, and great customer service as well as for its diverse membership. The LA Fitness prices are relatively upscale but these are well worth the money considering the enjoyable experience clients get every time they come to the clubs.

The standalone clubs are in convenient locations with spacious parking spaces so these are also popular among young professionals, businessmen, and families.  The staff are well-trained to handle all types of clients and situations, as well as friendly, courteous and attentive to clients. The LA Fitness costs makes sense, too, because of these desirable elements.

Below are the latest LA Fitness prices.

History

In 1983, Chin Yi and Lisa Marie Novins founded Rainbow Nautilus in Los Angeles, California. In 1984, the name was changed to LA Fitness and it has retained the name since then.

Through the mid-1990s, the chain expanded by purchasing under-performing fitness clubs as well as opening newly-constructed properties in the United States. In 2007, the chain also expanded its operations to Canada.

In the 2000s, the company continued its expansion in the United States through the acquisition of clubs like Bally Total Fitness, Lifestyle Family Fitness Clubs, Vision Quest Sport and Fitness, and The Buffalo and Rochester Athletic Clubs. Most, if not all, of these acquired clubs were then remodeled and renamed to LA Fitness.

Membership Matters

Before purchasing a membership plan, be sure to check the details related to the LA Fitness prices. Keep in mind that the membership fees will likely include other items including extra charges for additional amenities. If in doubt, ask the staff for clarification and information.

LA Fitness offers two basic types of membership, namely:

  • A Single Club membership that provides access to whichever local LA Fitness club you signed up in
  • A Multi-Club membership that allows access in multiple locations including out-of-state clubs

Both types of membership are priced on a per month basis and both require an initiation fee. Both also require the upfront payment of the first and last months’ dues. The slightly more expensive LA Fitness costs of membership are due to the combination of the monthly fee, the initiation fee, and the first and last months’ fees.

We suggest the Single Club membership for people who prefer exercising in a neighborhood club or who aren’t frequent travelers.  The Multi-Club membership is suitable for frequent travelers, such as salesmen or businessmen, who don’t want to miss their workouts at LA Fitness even when they’re out of town.

When you pay for the LA Fitness costs of membership, you will have the following benefits:

Full access to the exercise equipment including cardio, strength and flexibility training equipment

  • Free access to the wide range of fitness classes at either your local LA
  • Fitness club or out-of-town clubs depending on your type of membership
  • Free use of the racquetball courts depending on the type of membership

If you want access to the Signature Clubs, you have to upgrade your membership. Ask the staff in your local LA Fitness club about it since it will involve extra costs for the privilege of accessing the more upscale facilities and amenities.

Once you become a member, you will be issued a fob key that will serve as your access card to the LA Fitness facilities. You have to use the fob key when entering the gym. You can also download the LA Fitness app to your smartphone and use it as your key to the gym.

Downloading the app requires entering the details on your membership receipt so be sure to keep it for reference purposes. Using the app is easy, thanks to its user-friendly, intuitive interface.

Are you concerned about the relatively expensive LA Fitness prices? You shouldn’t be since there are many ways to enjoy discounts and get the best value for your money!

First, consider the AAA discount. You should be an active AAA member obviously and the deal can be accessed on the AAA website via the “Discounts & Rewards” tab.

AAA members generally don’t have to pay the initiation fee but are automatically enrolled in the Multi-Club membership plan. The no-initiation membership deal includes club access to multiple clubs including out-of-state locations and access to group fitness classes throughout the day. Many of the group fitness classes can be accessed for free, too (i.e., no additional charge).

Second, ask about the discounts for students and employees of certain businesses. You may just be able to get generous discounts on the initiation fee, arguably the highest fee in the overall LA Fitness costs.

Third, add family members to your membership plan. There are two ways of adding adult family members to your account, namely:

  • Choose “Guest Privileges” during the registration process. You will pay a more affordable monthly fee as a result. You can also bring two guests with each visit if you’re the primary member.

Take note, however, that if guests use an LA Fitness gym without the primary member, they will be required to purchase a membership plan.

  • Add up to three family members with each extra member paying for the Multi-Club Membership but not paying the initiation fee.

LA Fitness considers family members 14 years old and above as adults.  The primary member and his or her family members must live at the same address and the family membership plans should also be paid for with the same account as the primary member.

Fourth, negotiate with a manager for lower LA Fitness prices.  Just keep in mind that the odds of success will vary from one location to the next so it pays to haggle with as many managers in several different locations until you find the most satisfactory deal.

There’s also the LA Fitness free pass that interested individuals can request at a local gym. You can access a local gym for free for five days and then decide to buy a membership, if you liked the fitness experience.

Better yet, ask a current club member for a free 14-day VIP guest pass. You’re essentially saving a half-month’s access to LA Fitness for free and it isn’t too shabby, especially if you can pass the favor forward.

Aside from the upfront monthly fees and initiation fees, the LA Fitness costs of membership may also include the cost to add amenities, if you choose to add them. In most locations, the club tacks on an extra fee per month for the use of towels and the courts.

You have to decide whether the extra costs are well worth the price. For example, if you bring a clean towel every time you visit, paying for LA Fitness towels doesn’t make sense. If you use the racquetball courts frequently, then paying the extra monthly fee is an investment in your good health.

Changing your LA Fitness membership is easy. Log in to your LA Fitness account, click on the “Edit” tab next to the Billing Information and change your membership information.

Cancelling your LA Fitness membership requires more effort. Take note that memberships with recurring dues may be cancelled at any time. Log in to your account, click on the “Account Information” tab, and click the “Cancellation Form” and fill out its required information.

There are two ways to ensure that your cancellation becomes effective:

  • Deliver it by hand to the operations manager of an LA Fitness club at least five business days before your next monthly bill is due; or
  • Send it by certified mail to the LA Fitness corporate headquarters

Always check that, indeed, your membership has been cancelled to avoid future misunderstandings including another monthly bill in the mail.

Facilities, Amenities and Services

The LA Fitness prices give great value for the money because the facilities, amenities are services are above the industry standard. Most clients agree that you will indeed get what you paid for at LA Fitness and we mean it in the best way possible.

All LA Fitness clubs have the following facilities and amenities available for qualified members and their guests:

  • Free weights like kettlebells, dumbbells, and barbells
  • Weight machines
  • Cardio machines including treadmills, stair climbers, stationary bikes, and ellipticals
  • Heated lap pools
  • Whirlpools
  • Saunas
  • Racquetball courts
  • Basketball courts
  • Lockers, showers and restrooms

Some locations have additional amenities that may or may not come with an extra charge. These amenities include babysitting and childcare services, swimming school, and juice bars.

Racquetball courts are available on a first come, first serve basis and for a monthly fee. Reservations are recommended since these are popular among men and women alike.

The childcare services are satisfactory due to the presence of trained babysitting personnel. The usual ratio is one staff to 10 children but it also depends on the age of the children under the staff’s care. The service also requires a separate contract and a separate monthly fee from the monthly membership dues.

Personal training sessions are also available but these are separate from the LA Fitness costs of membership. A free assessment will be conducted before the first session so even if you paid for the services of a personal trainer, you still enjoyed a freebie.

There are currently three ways of paying for personal training sessions: A 12-month contract, a 6-month contract, and on a per appointment basis. The price for each type depends on the location so be sure to ask the staff first before choosing a personal trainer.  The personal training contract is obviously separate from the membership contract.

Keep in mind that these personal training sessions are based on a contract. Thus, if you cancel the contract before its completion date, you may be charged up to 50% of the cost of the remaining sessions. For this reason, it’s best to carefully consider whether you will benefit more from a per session contract or from a 6-month contract.

The availability of the group fitness classes vary by location, too. Even the prices will vary as well as the type of classes that are free for members and the classes where extra fees are required for participation. Thu while a Multi-Club Membership allows access to several LA Fitness gyms, it isn’t a guarantee that the membership privileges will be the same in all clubs.

In general, nonetheless, LA Fitness clubs offer a wide range of group fitness classes including:

  • Aqua Fit
  • Belly dancing
  • Aerobics Basics
  • Bodyworks Plus Abs
  • Cardio Jam
  • Boot camp conditioning
  • Core training
  • Cycle Zone
  • Hip hop
  • Club boxing circuit
  • Kickboxing cardio
  • Latin heat
  • Mat Pilates
  • Step circuit
  • Senior Fit
  • Step II Plus Abs
  • Striding
  • Sunrise yoga
  • Step Sculpt
  • Tai chi
  • Yoga
  • Yoga Beat
  • Total body conditioning
  • Zumba

Every group class is led by a certified fitness instructor, a must in maximizing the benefits of exercise and minimizing the risk of injury among the clients.  In many classes, the fitness instructors can also perform a brief assessment to determine the suitability of new clients for participation in the activities, especially in high-intensity workouts.

Mobile App Features

Going back to the LA Fitness Mobile, a digital membership card that every member should download to their mobile device. As a digital card, it allows convenient access to the facilities, amenities and services of whichever LA Fitness club you’re qualified to enter. It provides up-to-date information about gym locations and group fitness classes, reserve the amenities, and schedule your personal training sessions.

The app can be downloaded for free from the App Store and, thus, it’s compatible with iOS devices like the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPod. After it has been installed on your mobile device, you have to link the app to your current club membership.

You will be provided with a unique QR code that will serve as your digital access card or mobile membership identification.  Since you’re most likely to bring your smartphone everywhere, you’re not likely to get locked out, so to speak, of whichever LA Fitness club you want to enter.

The LA Fitness costs of membership and use of its luxurious amenities will initially seem more expensive in comparison with the competition. But when the world-class quality of the facilities, amenities and services are considered, the LA Fitness prices make great sense, especially for a fitness enthusiast who only want the best gym experience.

  4. Hi, can the price (for LA Fitness) be applied in Canada (Toronto Area.)

If yes, can you please let me registere a membership at this price.

    Thanks.

  5. Do not join lafitness, it’s not worth it. They love money more than their customers, joining them is like committing suicide. Please avoid signing up for a personal trainer if you don’t want to curse yourself.

  6. I would like to know how much will cost for family of 4 membership. My 2 kids was a members for long time they paid the initial fee and monthy payments for years, last month we decide my husband and me to join our kids and sign for family membership we been told to cancel our kids membership then wait one month because they paid for it then we can apply as family. Someone from Lakesuccess branch told us our initial payment will be $99 and we have to pay 2 months membership $200 and our psyment every month will be $100. We follow all the instructions and when the time came to apply they dont want us to have the offer we been told a month ago.

    • Since all of the LA Fitness are franchise and individually controlled, you will have to go into your local LA Fitness gym and ask for that quote. Also you may check few different locations to get the best deal for you.

  7. Some pretty good info here! Just a few pointers to help you out! When they purchased a lot of ballys clubs it was 171 locations not 17. Also, it is not a franchise and each location is not independently owned. They are privately owned by two guys. Lastly, pricing is variable and subject to change so deals can vary! Looks good otherwise!

  8. La Fitness is NOT a franchise. It is a privately held, family run business. If you would like info on memberships or to join please call – 949.502.2406

  9. I have a month to month membership. Just recently, I signed up for group training sessions, but when I got the contract from my email because they don’t give you a printed one at the gym, and it said 12 months. I called the gym the same day and was told by the trainer that they use the same contract for everything, but he assured me that like my membership, I am on a month to month plan, and that I could cancel whenever I was ready. I haven’t even started my sessions yet, but I’m really concerned about cancelling. There’s no way I can pay for 12 months of training classes. Is what he said true?

  10. Hi, im 13 years old and i play volleyball and i would like to occasionally go to LA fitness with my dad and run some for health and mainly for volleyball. on the internet it says you must be 16 years old, although all of my other friends have managed to get a membership.

    Please help,
    Thank you.

  11. I signed up with L.A Fitness in Sept 2014 before the opening of the gym in Niagara Falls. For 3 months they held my money..In December 2014 my curiousity led me to find out the gym was opening Dec 31 2014 at 12 pm. I expected a notification prior to this date so I would not incurr additional charges from my previous gym ($60). It did not happen. It appears the contract was not completed correctly by a person with limited experience and they did not include my email, however there was a phone number.. The local LA people did attempt to appease my concern for starting this relationship on the wrong foot, however I was told I would not be reimbursed or get creditted due to corporate leadership ( Is this really true considering it is a franchise?). I feel this is unfair and lack professionallism in trying to build clientele in a new city.. in addition I received a letter from the Brampton HQ dated Jan 2, 2015 indicating the Falls site was open, but it was mailed Jan 15 !!! WTF.. not sure why you have a problem with notifying people if you ask for their email.

  12. I have had my lifetime membership since 1972. Renewal is only $69 annually. I am putting it up for sale for only $1800. This is a real money saving opportunity for someone who would like to be a member for years to come, and save hundreds of dollars..

  13. Do prices ever increase? I’m still paying $29.99 but their website says new members pay $39.99 now. When can I expect my rate to increase?
