Before you join any fitness program, the first question that you have on your mind is “What kind of fitness instructor do I need?” It is quite important to work with a fitness instructor that suits your preferences and your fitness needs, especially because you are just new to the program. Here are some tips to help you choose the right instructor that will help you jumpstart your fitness journey:

Choose a fitness instructor with adequate experience

It is not required that he has been in the industry for decades, but your fitness instructor must have adequate experience so you’ll be assured that he knows what he’s doing, and what he’s telling you. The rule is to get an instructor who has a minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a fitness mentor. Being new to any fitness program, you need a mentor who knows a lot of things about the fitness needs of different kinds of people. This will also allow you to ask as many questions as you want.

Choose a fitness instructor with many clients

What better way to gauge an instructor’s credibility than to count the people who have entrusted their fitness journey to him. Talk to his previous clients and find out how he is as an instructor, and how he had helped them achieve their fitness goals.

Talk to him

Most often, gyms like Anytime Fitness will refer you to a fitness instructor so you would have a chance to talk to him personally.  Let him know what kind of fitness student you are. If you are the kind of student who is quite sensitive, tell him so he’ll know his limitations. Ask him about the fitness programs and methods that he might give you when you choose him. In this way, you will be able to give suggestions; notice how he entertains your suggestions, and how he explains things to you. By talking to a fitness instructor, you are going to have an idea if he is the right fitness instructor for you. Follow your instincts.

Watch actual fitness programs of fitness instructors

It is the most important part: Watch fitness instructors in action. Take note on how they treat their clients, how they motivate them, what methods they implement, and how the clients respond to their fitness approach.

Being a beginner, you should be wise in choosing the right fitness instructor, as this decision may make or break your fitness journey.
